Testing GM Diet Day 5 – Indian Vegetarian Version

By Anil Gupta,  29 Dec, 17  vegEasy     15  Diet

GM diet day 5 requires high protein and fiber. Vegetarians can substitute Beef with Soyabean, Paneer, Lentil or Egg whites. Stay hydrated to lose more weight.

Its a mixed feeling this morning of GM diet day 5. Half happy and half sad. Happy to have reached the 5th day in my resolution and sad to only have lost only 1.7 kgs by GM diet Day 4.
I hope this figure is different by the end of day 7.

Its the first day in diet when I can eat something other than fruits or vegetables.
The important part today is to eat more of Protein and fiber along with extra amount of water.

GM diet Day 5 Beef/ (ChickPeas or Rice) + Tomato + EXTRA water

Non-Veg options (in the order of preference starting from Beef as most preferred) :

  1. Beef
  2. Fish
  3. Pork
  4. No chicken

Veg options to substitute Beef (in the order of preference starting from Soyabean as most preferred):

  1. Soyabean
  2. Beans (Chickpeas, Red Kidney beans etc.)
  3. Egg whites (Some vegetarians can eat Eggs). Ignore if you don’t eat eggs.
  4. Dal/Lentil soup (without oil/cream)
  5. Paneer (Eat only if you can’t eat anything else and that too made with skim milk)
  6. Avoid Corn. Eat only if you have no other option.

The original diet only mentions about the Beef but vegetarians can go for the above options. I will be following the Indian vegetarian choices.

Breakfast 10 AM

GM diet day 5 - Vegetarian breakfast

GM diet day 5 – Vegetarian breakfast

1 medium size bowl of boiled Chick Peas with 1 raw tomato. Added a pinch of turmeric powder and Salt.
1 Glass Lemon water.

Lunch 2 PM

GM diet day 5 - Vegetarian lunch

GM diet day 5 – Vegetarian lunch

1 plate of boiled white rice with a small bowl of boiled chick peas again. 1 glass of Lemon water.
I think eating rice should be avoided here as it contains Starch. I decided to eat it as I read it on-line that vegetarians have opted for it in place of hamburger.

1 glass of Lime water (No sugar and no Salt added).

Evening Snacks 5 PM

I was feeling full so i did not eat anything in the evening snacks.

But, you can certainly go for another type of beans..may be boiled gram lentil.

Dinner 8.30 PM

GM diet day 5 - Vegetarian dinner

GM diet day 5 – Vegetarian dinner

1/2 medium size bowl full of boiled chick peas again with 1 raw tomato.

GM Diet Day 5 Analysis

  1. End of GM diet day 5 is giving a bit of a feeling of loss of energy which I had not felt till now. I hope it is melting down my extra fat. No weight measuring today.
  2. Had 14 glasses of water.

Lets jump on to GM diet Day 6 and the second last mile.

  1. Hey can we have fruits as evening snacks on Day 5?

    • Day 5 focuses more on Protein and Fiber.
Fruits have more of Sugar and Fiber.

I would suggest to have Tofu or non-fat Paneer as snacks on Day 5. Avoid fruits.

  2. Sorry but rice is not there in this diet plan on 5th or 6th day…it’s only on 7th day…I also did this same mistake consuming rice on 5th and 6th day but later came to know that it’s only for the 7th day.
For vegetarians, you can have as many as 5-8 tomatoes(medium) and kidney beans or chickpeas or tofu or paneer(little portions).we can also have wonder soup if desired.
For first 3days of this diet, yes u can have unlimited fruits and veggies but from 4th day u have to limit your quantity of food intake….we can have soup and veggies(6th day onwards) as we want.
This diet plan is really effective but only when followed religiously.

  3. Can you eat vegetables in general? What about soup? Is it only beans and rice on this day (if you’re vegetarian)?

    • The idea is to get as much protein as possible with lesser quantity of food. The vegetables won’t be able to give you much protein.
Rice should be avoided too. I didn’t, but if you can, you should.

Beans contain high amount of protein and fiber and hence will make your stomach feel full, even with small portion.

  4. I’m wondering how much weight you gain back if you eat a healthy, well-balanced vegan, low fat, low salt, low (processed)carb diet afterwards? Could it be possible to keep the weight off then? Along with exercise, of course. I ask because I’ll be going on vacation where I’m going to be wearing a swimsuit quite a bit. Don’t want to suddenly puff up because I’m gaining back all of the weight I lost.

  5. Hi i’m at the fifth day can i take chickpea with brown rice in lunch and dinner.
And day 6 can i take paneer with tomato and brown rice pulao

    • Yes, you can eat chickpea with brown rice. But, I would advice to restrict the quantity of brown rice to 1/2 cup (120 ml).

On day 6 also, keep the quantity of brown rice low. You can certainly eat paneer but make sure it was made with toned/ fat free milk.
Normally, paneer is made with full cream milk and is not good for diet.

  6. hey
I’m at the end of my day 4
on day 5 instead of beef can I take chickpeas, egg white, curd each in kne meal or should I select one and ear in all the meals ?

    • Yes, you can eat chickpeas, egg whites and curd (make sure it is made with skim milk/ Double toned milk as called in India).
You can make any combination of these in any meal. Also, make sure you keep the portion size (that you consume) small. Do not over-eat.

  7. How much you ended up loosing?

    • Hi Saurabh,
I had lost about 4 Kgs.
      Here are the details: http://www.inhouserecipes.com/gm-diet-results/

      • Thanks! I found this on your other thread. I also read the part where you mentioned you eventually gained all of it back! 🙂 How is your weight now?

        • yep..I gained it back primarily because I did not restrict my diet to limited calories. Also, I feel that the primary reason behind GM diet’s weight loss is water loss and not fat loss.
So, as soon as you start eating salt, your body will start accumulating the water and you will see your weight rising again.

My weight is at 163 pounds at this time after i lost 23 pounds with exercising and diet control. The change in food habits have helped a lot keeping it in check.
