Moong Dal HalwaMoong Dal Halwa is a well known sweet dish from north India. It finds its place in most menus including the one on marriage parties. I personally never give it a miss unless i have a better option at hand .

Genrally, people have the perception that making Moong dal Halwa at home is a tedious job. But, if you believe us and watch our video, you will find that it is pretty easy.
And yes, we are NOT using Khoya (mawa). It is basically an optional ingredient. If you have it, you can cook it and add it to halwa. Believe me, it tastes nothing less without it too.

Total time:
Yield: 1 Bowl (good for 4 people)

  1. 1 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Moong Dal
  2. 1 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Sugar
  3. 1 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Pure Ghee(Desi Ghee) or unsalted butter
  4. 2 Cups  Milk

Method

  1. Soak the Moong Dal in water for 4 hours.
  2. After 4 hours, drain the Dal to rinse away water. Now grind it to make a smooth paste. There should be no major lumps in the dal paste.
  3. Now, lets start roasting dal paste. Heat a pan on high flame. Add Desi Ghee and wait until it gets melted completely.
  4. Once ghee melts, add the dal paste. Roast it on low flame until it gets golden brown in color.
  5. Keep stirring to avoid burning.
  6. After 25 minutes of cooking on low flame, you will witness that Dal separates itself from Ghee.
  7. Now add Milk and Sugar. Cook it on low-medium heat and stir continuously.
  8. When it gets thick and stops sticking to the pan, moong dal halwa is ready to serve.

Serve hot Moong dal halwa as a sweet dish in the 3rd round of your meal! Of course, the first and second should be appetizer and main course. If you want something unconventional and zara hatke, you can give Makki Atte ka halwa a try.
