Besan Burfi Recipe – Sweet Dessert From India

Besan Burfi is an north Indian dessert for Shri Hanuman prasad. Besan can be roasted on stove or in Microwave. You can substitute sugar with condensed milk.

Besan Laddu and Besan burfi are two of the evergreen sweets from North India. We remember having it every tuesday after we devoted it to Shri Hanuman Ji as a prasad from my childhood days.

We also remember that these were distributed on the occasion of marriage as a return gift to all attendees.

They are the basic item on any Desi Halwai in India. Here we are trying to present an easy way of making them at home.

Besan Burfi can also be made with condensed milk in the same way. You only need to skip Sugar from this recipe as the sweet milk would already have it.

  Ingredients


  •   2 Cup Gram Flour Besan
  •   3/2 Cup Powder Sugar or Powder Sugar, If you like to eat less Sugar, use 1 cup only
  •   1/4 Cup Semolina Sooji
  •   1/4 Cup Almonds Sliced , You can add any dry fruit of your choice like Pistachio/Cashew
  •   1/4 Tsp Green Cardamom Powder Green
  •   3/4 Cup Desi Ghee Pure Ghee. You can use Unsalted Butter instead of Desi Ghee

     Storage and Serving Suggestions

    1. Besan Burfi can be refrigerated for up-to 10-12 days for best taste.
    2. Burfi loses its softness if you refrigerate. Hence you might want to keep it out of refrigerator at normal room temperature.There is no harm in keeping it out too. You can enjoy the softness way for about 7 days.
    3. You can also prepare Besan Ladoos with the same mixture by giving them round ball shape.

      I want to make it with condensed milk so I’d leave out the sugar, but otherwise follow the recipe the same? Won’t that make it too wet?

        Yes, using condensed milk will make it too wet.
        We would suggest to reduce the Oil (Ghee) quantity by half if you plan to use condensed milk.
