Kanji Vada Recipe with Moong Dal – Video

Kanji Vada is a popular digestive North Indian drink made with Red Mustard seeds. Using Moong dal vada instead of Black Carrots. Easy and quick recipe.

  • 1 Cup Moong Dal (Soaked in water for 4 hours and then rinsed)
  • 1/4 Tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Tsp Red Mustard Seeds (Powder, Ground, Rai Powder)
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 500 Ml Water
  1. To make Vada: Grind Moong Dal into a fine paste. You can add 2 tsp water also.
  2. Add a pinch of Salt and mix the Moong dal paste for 5 minute. It helps in making soft and fluffy vadas.
  3. Take a Jar plastic or Glass and add 500ml water.
  4. Add Red Chili powder, Red Mustard seeds powder Rai Powder and Salt in water. Shake well.
  5. Heat oil for frying in a pan. Add small portions of Moong Dal paste and keep the stove on medium flame.
  6. Fry until they turn Golden brown and then take them out.
  7. Let the Vadas cool down for 10 min. and then add them in Kaanji water.
  8. Keep the jar in sunlight or warm place for 2 hrs. each for 2 days and then it will be ready to serve.
  1. You can refrigerate Kanji Vada for up-to 2 days.
  2. Try to consume it within 2 days. The taste will deteriorate as long as you preserve.
  3. The mustard seeds start getting soggy as soon as you add them to water. Hence, it is recommended that you try to make this digestive drink, as and when, you need to serve it even though you can refrigerate.
