Boil Potatoes Without Pressure Cooker [Pics]

Boiling Potatoes without pressure cooker is a bit longer process than boiling with pressure cooker.  This process takes about 30 minutes on average whereas the pressure cooker can do it in 10 minutes.

There is no doubt that the pressure cooker method is better, faster and cheaper due to its lower energy usage. But, there are times when you the cooker is not available and this recipe might be your only source of energy!

  • 2 Number Potato (raw, any size)

Getting pan ready Prep Time – 1 minute

  1. You can cut and divide the Potato into two pieces. This is not essential but helps in reducing the total boiling time if the potato are large in size.
  2. Add the Potatoes and Water in a pan. Make sure that all potatoes are completely submerged in water.

Boil Potato Cook time – 30 Minute

  1. Keep the stove on high flame and wait for first boil.
  2. Just after a boil, turn the stove to low flame and cover the pan with a lid.
  3. Wait and let it boil on low flame for about 30 minutes. It is possible for the potatoes to get boiled even before 30 minutes. So, it is important to keep a watch and use the boiling-check test after about 20 minutes. Normally, the smaller potatoes would take less time to reach the boiling point.
  4. To check: Pork the knife in one of the Potato, if it goes in easily, it means your job is done. Else, you would need to keep it on boil for another 5 minutes.
  5. That’s it. You are done. Switch off the stove and take out the potatoes. Do not forget to peel off the skin before using them.
