india gate kite flying independence day It is a moment to feel proud and cherish our 64th independence day in India. Indians all over the world would be celebrating the day with flying Indian colors.

We also wish everybody a happy independence day and may our country keep flourishing forever.

We celebrate independence day with flying kites and I myself too was an avid kite flyer till my school time. Now i am only good enough to fly my articles!!

Every year, we get to hear so many unfortunate accidents that happen due to kite flying without taking precautions. This year, NDPL (North Delhi Power Limited) - Electricity provider in New Delhi, India has issued some precautions that should be followed to minimize the accidents:

NDPL

  1. Kite flying should be avoided since the wires of kites are metallic coated which, when in contact with live electricity wires, cause them to trip and hence disrupt power supply.
  2. The metallic coated string (called manjha in hindi) to fly kites is a good conductor of electricity and can prove life threatening as it can electrocute people.
  3. According to estimates, tripping of just one 33/66 KV overhead line can disrupt power supply to over 10,000 residents of an area. Similarly, tripping of a single 11 KV line can affect over 2,500 residents.
  4. During Independence Day celebrations in 2009, over 100 such tripping were reported. The extent of delays/ damage can well be ascertained in Delhi!
  5. Kite flying in restricted areas such as Metro Train installations and other stipulated areas can also invite hefty penalties.

Be responsible, Be safe!
