Our bodies get the energy they need from food through metabolism, the chemical reactions in the body's cells that convert the fuel from food into the energy needed to do everything from moving to thinking to growing. Specific proteins in the body control the chemical reactions of metabolism, and each chemical reaction is coordinated with other body functions. In fact, thousands of metabolic reactions happen at the same time — all regulated by the body — to keep our cells healthy and working.

Everybody's body has its own metabolism and you would have heard thousand times on weight reduction programs that you have slow metabolism and hence your body is not able to reduce weight easily. That arguably is true and hence increasing your metabolism is part of every weight reduction program.
The best way to increase your body's metabolism is to start exercising as it increases your body's activity and make your body consume more energy than normal gradually decreasing your weight.
If you are like me who is afraid of starting exercise just because it is not going to happen after one day, these tips are definitely going to work for you...
- Make sure you eat breakfast:
If you don't eat breakfast, you slow down your metabolism and send the body into "hoard mode," thinking it's starving because you're going a long period of time frequently 8 to 10 hours or more, without food.
- Eat the majority of your food earlier in the day:
Dinner should be your lightest meal, and some experts recommend you don't anything after 8 p.m., or any later than 3 to 4 hours before bedtime. This helps your body process and burn the food when you're aware and moving around and burning more calories per hour.
- Don't starve:
Dropping your calorie intake below 1,000 calories a day will signal to your body that you are in starvation mode, and will slow down your metabolism.
- Eat smaller meals more frequently:
Smaller, more frequent meals keeps your blood sugar stable and provides a steady source of energy to fuel metabolism.
- Drink lots of Water
You've heard it before, but drink those 8 8-ounce glasses of water every day. The energy burning process of metabolism needs water to work effectively.
- Drink Green Tea
Green tea has been shown to boost metabolism. Researchers believe that antioxidants in green tea can cause the body to waste calories as heat, which increases your caloric burn.
- Spice It Up
Adding hot peppers such as jalapenos to your meals can increase the amount of calories your body burns during digestion. If you like your food to have a little kick, it's an easy way rev up your metabolism.
- Eat Protein With Every Meal
Our bodies have to work hard to digest the foods we eat, and your metabolism revs up in response. However, eating protein boosts your metabolism a little more than consuming carbohydrates or fats with the same number of calories. Of course, don't take that to mean that you should switch to a high-protein diet, since carbs are the main source of energy for runners. But try to incorporate lean protein into most meals. Your best sources for protein include: fish, lean red meat, skinless chicken or turkey breast, nonfat yogurt, skim milk, eggs and egg substitutes, beans, tofu, and lentils.
- Stay Active Every Day
Try to keep moving as much as possible during the day. If you have a desk job, do leg lifts as you sit at your desk or take frequent breaks to walk around.
I hope you reduce weight by actually doing what you enjoy most....i.e. EATING and eating and that too 6 times a day...
All the best...
