13 things your Dog should not eat

What are the things that will hurt your beloved dog?  You might have heard to keep your dog away from chocolate of all kinds, with death being the implied danger. What are the things you really need to keep away from your dog? 

Here is a list of common things which are dangerous for your dog and should be avoided:



Alcohol

Beer, liqour, Wine, Foods containing alcohol - None of it is good for your Dog.

Why: Alcohol has the same effect on dog's liver and brain as it has on humans.


Possible symptoms: Even small amount can cause vomiting, diarrhea, central nervous system depression, difficulty in breathing or death.

Onions

Onions in all forms - powdered, raw, cooked or dehydrated is bad for your dog.

Why: Can destroy red blood cells and cause anaemia.

Possible symptoms: Vommiting, diarrhea, dullness, little interest in food, breathlessness.

Coffee, Tea

Caffeine found in Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate and colas is dangerous for your dog.

Why: Caffeine acts as a poisoning agent.

Possible symptoms: Restlessness, breathlessness, heart palitations, muscle tremors, fits and bleeding.

Grapes, Raisins

Grapes and raisins are generally considered safe for dogs but this is not true.

Why: Can cause kidney failures

Possible symptoms: Vomitting, hyperactive behavior, becomes lethargic and depressed.

Milk and other dairy products

All milk and milk products should be avoided.

Why: Can cause diarrhea, upset digestion and food allergies.

Possible symtoms: Itchness

Chocolate

Most people know that chocolate is bad for dogs.

Why: The culprit is theobromine which is present is all kind of chocolates including white chocolate.

Possible Symptoms: Vomitting, diarrhea, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and death.



Fat trimmings and Bones

The leftover meat and bones by humans that they did not eat are dangerous for dogs

Why: Fat trimmed from meat, both cooked and uncooked can cause pancreatitis in dogs. A dog can choke his throat with the bone. Bones can also cause an obstruction in your dog's digestive system.

Peaches and Plums

Why: the culprit here are the seeds. They can cause inflammation and obstruction of the small intestine in dogs

Peach and plum pits contain cyanide, whihc is poisonous to both humans and dogs.

Raw Eggs

Why: It can cause food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E.Coli. 

Raw Meat and Fish

Why:  It can also cause food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E.Coli. 

Possible symptoms: Vomitting, Fever and big lymph nodes.

Thoroughly cooking the meat and fish will protect your dog.

Sugary foods and Drinks

Why: Too much sugar can cause obesity, dental problems and even diabetes. Moderate sugar is okay.



Yeast dough

Why: Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.

Your Medicine

Why: Your over the counter drugs unless it is told by your Vet can prove dangerous for your dog. Keep them out of reach of your dog.

If your Dog eats what it should't:

Precautions are always better than cure and that is the reason we have specified the details here.

But still If you think your dog has consumed something that's toxic, call for emergency. Its a good idea to keep your vets's number handy too.
