The world is changing everyday and so do the fashion. The latest in the list is the creative use of Mehndi as jewellery.
You can now deck yourself using traditional henna ‘jewellery’, studded with any stone of your choice.
You can get designs on the neck, hair, ear, hand, arm, forehead, nose, etc., interspersed with muticoloured stones, to give the illusion of real jewellery.
The trend is slowly catching up in Indian weddings partially due to high gold prices and partially because the new generation today is ready to experiment and try new concepts and styles.
Henna jewellery can be matched with your dress. It can even be made to replicate the pattern and colour of your outfit. Many brides-to-be are getting it done for their engagement and roka ceremonies.
The cost of getting a bridal design depends on the kind of stones used. The cost of labour ranges between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000, depending upon the intricacy of the design.
Will Henna leave its color once washed off?
Henna art can be easily peeled off and thanks to a special gel used during its preparation, it doesn’t leave an impression on the skin. Also, other additives used to prepare henna for this purpose are extracted from nature and completely safe. Besides jewellery, bridal bindis and nail art can also be done with mehendi.
As gold is getting expensive day by day, it is slowly and gradually going out of reach of middle class Indian families. The day is not distant when people will prefer Henna over gold.
Someone once rightly said, All that glitters is not gold!
